A Must-Do: Coffee Farm Tours in Puerto Rico During the Bad Bunny Residency

Buenos Dias, Beautiful Humans!

Puerto Rico is electric! the music is not only going out the speakers, but out the hearts of our people en la Isla (in the island) only Bad Bunny can create.

It’s a beautiful chaos that pulses through the streets of San Juan. With crowds filling the city, traffic jams left and right, and a new spotlight in Puerto Rico the world can see. There hasn’t been a moment like this in Puerto Rican history when an artist has brought so much attention to the Island.

But when you need to slow your own beat, a different kind of music calls from the heart of the island. It’s more of a quiet hum of life, the rustle of leaves, and the gentle sigh of mountain air. It's in those moments that you truly feel home.

As Bad Bunny sings, "No me quiero ir de aquí, de la orilla del mar, de la arena y las palmas,"

("I don't want to leave here, from the edge of the sea, from the sand and the palm trees.") We feel that exact way in Hacienda Iluminada. This is YOUR invitation to take a momentary escape from city life, come back to the mountains, and find the soul of Puerto Rico.

-If it’s good for EARTH it’s GOOD for YOU

Benito's Mission and the Soul of Hacienda Iluminada

More than a musical icon, Bad Bunny is a force of nature, and his residency is a powerful love letter to our homeland. With a projected economic impact of over $200 million and a focus on empowering Puerto Rican communities, his historic residency is a testament to the island's potential.

As he so passionately states, "Un día me cansé y dije, 'Yo no quiero ser un artista, quiero ser un artista de Puerto Rico'." (One day I got tired and I said, 'I don't want to be an artist, I want to be an artist from Puerto Rico)

This mission of creating jobs and a better future for Puerto Rico is the very reason Hacienda Iluminada was born. Before we even purchased the coffee farm, we sat down with the mayor of Maricao. He saw that our community needed help and we wanted to impact.

His only request was simple, yet powerful: that we would hire farmers from Maricao and the surrounding areas. We have proudly kept that promise since 2014.

As Puerto Ricans we all understand that it’s beyond the music or the coffee. We are all looking for opportunities to help our nation grow and to have an impact on the world. We are all stronger together, and like the hypnotic and euphoric sound of Bad Bunnies music. You can taste the richness and strength of Puerto Rico through our coffee.

Café con Run: The Story Behind the Flavor

Imagine this: After a sold out show that left the entire Coliseum breathless, Bad Bunny finds himself having to escape in the absolute quiet high in the mountains of Maricao, Puerto Rico. He’s not in the city, but in the rhythm of the earth. He meets a farmer that makes him a fresh cup of specialty Puerto Rican coffee, and gives it to Benito. He reflects while the mug is placed in his hands, and the warmth of it is a small comfort against the cool night air.

The aroma is a mix of the earth, and the winds are the sounds of our ancestors, and then that’s when it hits him… a voice in his head and a beat in his mind are dialing in like pulling an espresso. All of a sudden the melody comes to him.

As he sings, "Y con la luz de la luna, me siento a tomar un café con ron," (And with the light of the moon, I sit to drink a coffee with rum.)

At that moment he realized he tried our very own Rum-Infused Coffee Beans, with their smokey cinnamon and dark chocolate notes, are an ode to that feeling. A flavor that feels like home, no matter where you are.

There is a saying that goes art imitates reality and no matter what the inspiration for his song café con Ron was really about, it is a reflection of our culture.

The Resilience of Maricao

The town of Maricao is a community of extraordinary resilience. Known for our beautiful yet challenging mountainous terrain, its people have faced hardships with an unwavering spirit that mirrors the island's own journey.

The unemployment rate in this region is staggering at 27.3%, a harsh reality that has only been amplified since Hurricane Maria destroyed an estimated 80% of our island's coffee trees in 2016. Many farms all over town took a massive financial loss and have not recovered, facing a critical labor shortage forced our younger people go seek opportunities elsewhere, leaving precious coffee fruit to rot on the trees.

Hacienda Iluminada is a living example of this mission to rebuild and empower. As Bad Bunny raps, "La resistencia, la gente que trabaja, la gente que lucha, esa gente soy yo,"

("The resistance, the people who work, the people who fight, that's who I am.")

he reminds us that the power of Puerto Rico lies in its people. Every job we create, every harvest we bring in, is a triumph for the whole community. By controlling our farming and distribution through direct trading, we can pay our team a wage above the local average, provide access to healthcare, and invest in better housing and education for their families.

Our direct trade model allows us to build a direct and trust-based relationship with our team. This simple yet powerful approach ensures that the strength and creativity of Puerto Rico extend far beyond its capital city, creating a sustainable future right here in Maricao.

You are a part of our story of resilience when you come see our coffee farm.
