At Hacienda Iluminada, we are proud to grow several distinct Arabica coffee bean varieties, each with its own unique characteristics:
Limones: These Arabica coffee beans are typically a vibrant yellow or reddish color when ripe, and they are known for their small, dense size. What makes them special is the bright, zesty, and citrusy notes the coffee fruit has, that gives it our tropical spirit.
Bourbon: A classic and highly-regarded variety, our Bourbon coffee beans are rounder in shape and have a rich, deep red color when ripe. They are celebrated for their balanced sweetness and complex flavor, often with hints of chocolate and caramel, offering a classic, full-bodied specialty coffee experience when freshly roasted.
Caturra: These variety of Arabica coffee beans are smaller and more compact, with a bright red color. Caturra is prized for producing a crisp, clean cup with a pleasant acidity and a sweet finish, making it a favorite for those who appreciate a lively and pure cup of specialty coffee.
Marsellesa: This variety is a unique hybrid with medium-sized coffee beans and a reddish-yellow color. It stands out for its well-rounded and diverse flavor profile, often featuring notes of nuts and fruit, and a smooth, satisfying finish.
We use the honey process, before roasting our specialty coffee beans. It is a sustainable coffee method where a portion of the coffee cherry's sweet pulp is left on the coffee bean during drying. This is a very intricate technique that enhances the natural sweetness to the coffee cherries and gives our coffee a full-bodied, rich texture that you will be in disbelief once you taste it.
